Marry Me, Mary!

Jang Geun Suk, Moon Geun Young, and Kim Jae Wook. With these three, how could a drama go wrong? And for the first eight episodes, each full of humor, cuteness, slight annoyances (in the form of Seo Jun whom never did make sense to me), we all thought for sure this would be the drama of the year. And then the writer mid-season lost her way, she was replaced, and the drama never did get back on track.

What was very frustrating was that I really wanted to like the drama as a whole and so did the population that followed it through it's 8-week course. There was so much promise--a quirky theme with the double marriage, addictive music, and lovable characters. But in the end, I was left unsatisfied. Choices made by characters never made sense and any "conflicts" were so petty, you wondered whether there is any point to the show at all. We won't even get started with Seo Jun, who's obsession with Mu Gyul (JGS) was a little over-the-top and the fathers who's insistence on a marriage was so repetitive that it got old after episode two.

I am very sympathetic towards the actors because they acted their hearts out. Unfortunately, they couldn't carry the drama on their own. Without the support of a proper and logical plot, we suddenly found ourselves running around in circles to the end. However, kudos to our actors/actresses regardless. Moon Geun Young was so sweet and lovable, you couldn't help but adore her. Jang Geun Suk brought to the table his more relaxed side compared to his previous role in You're Beautiful which was a pleasant change. Plus, Geun Suk and a guitar? Awesome. While I didn't like Jung-In's character so much, I do have a soft spot for Kim Jae Wook after watching Coffee Prince and his stiff acting eventually softened towards the end. You can't help but feel sympathy for the poor second lead.

Overall, this drama was a disappointment. I'm not saying this because I have some prejudices (because I really did want to like it) but I want to save those who haven't watched it from possible brain damage and hair loss.
