Hana Kimi (JP)

I'm very skeptical about starting a Japanese drama and I think this show is one of the reasons I'm wary of committing myself to one in the future. Maybe it's because I'm not a fan of slapstick humor, or exaggerated acting, but I just didn't like this drama and I am very very glad I watched the Taiwanese version first. Had I begun with this version, I doubt I'd be masochistic enough to look for more.
If I think it's so horrible, why did I give it a decent score of 3 stars? I acknowledge it had its humorous scenes and I know there are drama lovers out there that have this drama as one of their top favorites and it's exactly what they look for when they look for a drama. If you ever look for our rating system guide, you find the following description for a drama rated with three stars: Good, Has average worth, but one that might possess considerable appeal for fans of a particular style.

So there, I inflated its ego. If only we had a 2.5 on here...

If you haven't watched the Taiwanese version, I suggest you do so. It was amazing. Characters were believable... characters had depth.... made the fun scenes that much more fun. I'd put it on par with You're Beautiful.

"The drama is based on the popular manga of the same name by Nakajo Hisaya, which has already been dramatized in Taiwan. Horikita plays the protagonist Ashiya Mizuki, a Japanese girl in the U.S. who one day sees the young athlete Sano Izumi (Oguri) compete in the high jump on television. She begins to idolize him, and decides to move to Japan to attend the same school as him. However, Izumi goes to an all-boys school, so Mizuki disguises herself as a boy to achieve her dream of being with her idol."
Dramafully: 3/5
